SPIRIT LAKE — A cross burning on the lawn of a black man's northern Idaho home has led to the issuing of an arrest warrant for one person, police said.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, could face charges of malicious harassment and conspiracy to commit malicious harassment, said Lansing Haynes, Kootenai County's chief deputy prosecutor. Each crime carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and $5,000 in fines.
Haynes said other people might have been involved in the incident Sunday.
Tony Lamanna, Spirit Lake police chief, said two tiki torches were used to form the cross between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. He said he didn't know if the cross burning was racially motivated.
um, given that there really aren't that many african-americans in idaho/northern idaho and most definitely not in spirit lake, idaho, you can bet that if a burning cross turns up on the lawn of an african american there it most certainly is racially motivated. so just fucking say it.
